Everyone loves to celebrate a new year!

It’s the perfect time to set new goals, make lifestyle changes, and ensure you don’t repeat the mistakes from the previous year(s)!

Here in Cayman, we may have welcomed in our new New Year, but the Lunar New Year begins on Wednesday 29 January.

2025 is the Year of the Snake.

In the Chinese zodiac, the snake represents charm, wisdom, transformation, and elegance.

Traditional festivities include hanging red lanterns and placing red paper cuttings on windows and doors at home and in the office.

Families host reunion dinners that feature fish, dumplings sticky rice cake, and spring rolls.

Fascinating lion and dragon dances are performed to bring good fortune and ward off evil spirits.

On Lunar New Year’s Day, after the reunion dinner, it is tradition for older family members and parents to give red envelopes containing money to their younger family members. This gesture symbolises prosperity and good luck for growth, and successful studies for the coming year.

Other countries in the world which celebrate the Lunar New Year are South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, USA, Australia, and UK.
