Situated in Bay Town Plaza, on the West Bay Road at the start of Seven Mile Beach, Southern Spice has been bringing India’s delicious, exotic and fragrant taste  to Cayman since first opening its doors in 2010.

On entering the restaurant you are immediately made to feel welcome with a warm, genuine greeting from staff who provide an attentive and friendly service during your dining experience.  The staff’s passion is reflected throughout, with first class hospitality and exquisitely prepared and presented cuisine. The restaurant’s ambience takes you on a journey that embraces the culture of India and provides a charming setting in which to enjoy a leisurely meal.

Southern Spice’s extensive menu covers all the most popular Indian dishes such as Biryani, Butter Chicken, Tandoori dishes, Tikka Masala, Korma, Dosas, Samosas, and Daal. All of which are served with a selection of breads such as naan and chapatti (more commonly served in the North of India) or rice (traditionally used more in Southern India).  Great care is taken in the preparation of each dish with the use of fresh ingredients and a combination of exotic spices creating a mouthwatering fusion of flavours.  The kitchen boasts an authentic clay tandoori oven shipped in from India and the kitchen team includes chefs from the north and south of India who specialise in each region’s cuisine.

Customer favourites include Butter Chicken, Lamb Rogan Josh, and Chicken Tikka Masala.  I sat down to enjoy a chat with staff while enjoying my first experience of a Dosa, a South Indian savoury crepe (made from rice and white lentils).  I chose the vegetarian Masala Dosa with potato which is served with sambar, a delicious combination of vegetables, lentils and tamarind creating a thick stew, together with coconut chutney and tomato chutney which, combined, created a tantalising explosion of flavours that I took time to savour and enjoy.  If you have not tried it, then I highly recommend this dish which can be enjoyed with a variety of fillings including vegetarian and meat options.

On asking what they believed they owed the success and longevity of the restaurant to, I was told, without hesitation, that guest satisfaction was their top priority combined with consistency of service and quality of food.  It seems this winning combination is the secret to their continued and well-deserved success!

Southern Spice is open for lunch Monday through Saturday 11:30am – 2:30pm and for dinner from 5:30pm, seven days a week.

Stop by for their weekly Friday brunch where you can sample a selection of different dishes including vegan and vegetarian options.
